Three types of waterproofing in Singapore and when use them
Considering quality waterproofing for your domestic or commercial property is the best first step in having a building that will last the test of time and save you money on maintenance costs down the line.
Whilst you might know you need waterproofing, there are many options available to you. At Le Fong Waterproofing, we are here to assist you with finding the best option for your needs and budget.
Isn’t waterproofing just waterproofing? How does it differ?
Not all waterproofing is the same, so let’s take a look at three of the options on the market.
Sheet Membrane (Usually underground, basements, etc…)
This is a thin layer of waterproof material that is added to, or laid over the top of your roof. This membrane cannot be infiltrated by harsh elements. This method relies on it being on a slope so that all rain can be drained off the surface. If you use this in an area where water is likely to pool you will not be getting the right protection for your needs.
Torch on membrane
Torch on membrane is the perfect solution for roofing that has a tendency to pool water, such as flat rooftop areas and balconies. Your roof top is your first line of defense against the elements, whether it’s the harsh sun or our tropical storms, you need protection you can count on.
The key to torch on membrane working on flat surfaces is that the polyurethane or bitumen are welded together to make one membrane, with no gaps to let the water leak in. Even the overlaps are strong enough to withstand the weather, and are as strong as the rest of the membrane due to being fused together with solvents.
Liquid Membrane
Liquid membranes are ideal for more complex and sophisticated designs and buildings.
Several coats of the liquid membrane will be required, but it does give you a more flexible application. This application is usually used on roofs, balconies, bathrooms, flooring, and in-wall tiling.
Don’t worry if none of this makes sense to you, or you’re struggling with what option is suitable for your application, Le Fong Waterproofing will be able to consult on what the best option is for you. We offer various internal and external solutions for new and remedial waterproofing anywhere on the Gold Coast.
