  • Placement at Construction: During the construction of the cavity wall, the DPC is placed at all levels where horizontal DPC is installed. It bridges the cavity and is laid in such a way that it slopes downwards to prevent water from travelling across the cavity.
  • Ensuring Overlap: Just like in horizontal DPC, overlaps are crucial and must be adequately sealed.

5. Chemical DPC Installation

A chemical DPC involves the injection of a water-repellent chemical into the walls to create a barrier against moisture. This is used mainly as a retrofit solution in buildings where the original DPC has failed:

  • Drilling Holes: Holes are drilled at a defined height along the mortar line.
  • Injection: The chemical solution is then injected under pressure into these holes. The chemical diffuses through the masonry and sets, forming an impervious barrier.
  • Re-plastering: Finally, the wall may need to be re-plastered to finish the installation cleanly and restore the aesthetic appearance of the wall.
